Interior Health is praising Vernon for its leadership on supportive housing.

A letter from IH CEO Susan Brown to mayor Victor Cumming expresses “heartfelt gratitude to you and the council for your unwavering advocacy and dedication to fostering community partnerships.”

The letter is included in the agenda package for Monday’s council meeting.

In it, Brown says Vernon’s efforts “have been instrumental in developing safe and supportive housing for community members in Vernon and its surrounding areas.”

Newport News expands mental health partnership amid ‘significant’ rise in emergency calls

Newport News’ dispatch center managers said they have seen a serious rise in mental health-related calls since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Newport News 911 dispatchers are the first line of response with each phone call ringing into their center.

Lately, they said they’ve seen a lot more calls from both the 911 and 988 lines over the past couple of years regarding mental health.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Mecklenburg County is building more community resource centers to seek solutions regarding the lack of health care in its underserved, impoverished areas.

Areas deemed “corridors of opportunity” in Charlotte, like Beatties Ford Road and Sugar Creek Road, struggling with food deserts, violence, and lack of resources.

Mercy Health announces potential split from major insurance company Anthem | News

PADUCAH — Finger pointing, confusion and conflicting answers were seen Wednesday between a large local medical provider and a health insurance company many of you use. Mercy Health, which operates Paducah’s Lourdes Hospital and several other west Kentucky medical facilities, announced the potential of a split with health insurance provider Anthem, now known as Elevance Health.
