Colorado researchers theorize that fructose metabolism may be the driving force behind Alzheimer Disease pathology. Diets high in sugar and high glycemic index carbohydrates would exacerbate the problem. Salt may also play a role. Fructose is a simple sugar (a monosaccharide) typically found in fruit, honey, and some vegetables. Table sugar is sucrose, a combination of fructose with a glucose molecule. High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is added to many processed foods as a bulk-sweetener. From the article linked above:

Forget Fad Diets. AI Knows Exactly What You Should Eat for Your Best Health

I knew a guy in college who could consume heaping bowls of ice cream without any discernable effect on his six-pack abs. I’ve been wondering ever since why my body doesn’t respond that way to my favorite dessert—or, for that matter, if I’ll ever find one that I won’t regret the next day when I step on the scale. The measure passed the House on a nearly unanimous vote of 95-2 and was put in place in a finance committee after unanimously clearing a Senate health committee.

Study points to better care for babies born to opioid users

Babies born to opioid users have shorter hospital stays and need less medication when their care emphasized parental involvement, skin-to-skin contact and a quiet environment, researchers reported Sunday.

Newborns were ready to go home about a week earlier compared to those getting standard care. Fewer received opioid medications to reduce withdrawal symptoms such as tremors and hard-to-soothe crying, about 20% compared to 52% of the standard-care babies.

Babies born to opioid users, including mothers in treatment with medications such as methadone, can develop withdrawal symptoms after exposure in the womb.

Typically, hospitals use a scoring system to decide which babies
