These four dangerous fungi pose a serious threat to public health

The popular HBO drama series “The Last of Us” instilled images of fungal devastation in the minds of millions. But while a fungal pandemic is a real possibility, the reality of it would look much different than the TV show or video game.

Indeed, thanks to “The Last of Us” and other recently alarming fungal public health news, functions are progressively centering themselves in public health threats — an alarming trend that could foster a pandemic unlike anything seen before. For now, that risk is relatively low. But of all the microorganisms that attack humans, the functions are some of

Biden’s new budget proposal, with high taxes on the mega-rich and expanded medical help for the working- and middle-class, has only fueled the attacks that go back at least to the 2020 campaign. It was the dominant theme of the GOP convention; it’s how National Review attacks Biden’s student loan forgiveness program; it’s how Nikki Haley and Matt Gaetz decry the

Thinking back to Monday 16th March 2020 I remember getting up early. I was due to visit one of our homes in Tewkesbury. I was just about to leave the house when an email landed from a senior Director telling us all to ‘Hold’ all visits and to be ready for a conference call that morning. Yes, this was the start of the ‘Lock Down’. With the benefit of insight, how ready were we for what was about to happen next?

Our management team had already undertaken various strategic planning exercises. On the 16thth March, a

Westfield Public Health Bulletin: End of federal emergency will affect COVID costs

The end of the COVID-19 public health emergency is scheduled for May. Last week, the US Department of Health and Human Services sent out a letter to state governors explaining what this would mean. HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra affirms that addressing COVID-19 is still “a significant public health priority for the administration.”

The letter cites the government’s success of the “largest adult vaccination program in US history, with nearly 270 million Americans receiving at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine.” It also notes the continued decrease of COVID-19 cases, deaths and hospitalizations.

The public health emergency expedited access to
