A hospital in southwestern Ontario says it will close its emergency department overnight Thursday, the latest in a number of recent temporary ER and urgent care center closures in the province.

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance did not cite a reason for the Clinton Public Hospital’s closure in its announcement, but the organization has repeatedly pushed to temporarily close three of its community hospital ERs, including in Clinton, Ont., this year due to staffing pressures.

Facebook posts advertise a “relief package” that supposedly offers free health insurance to all Americans earning less than $50,000 annually, citing a January 2021 executive order from US President Joe Biden. This is false; the provision urges states to make federal programs more accessible, but experts say it does not provide for no-cost insurance.

“President Biden signed Executive Order 14009 making Health Insurance Free for qualifying Americans,” says a January 9, 2023 Facebook post.

Another post shared July 18, 2022 claims the measure also provides dental and vision coverage. Similar claims have circulated in spanish.
