Parliament Ratifies USD 308 Million Japanese Loan for Universal Health Insurance

The Egyptian House of Representatives ratified a JPY 44 billion (USD 308 million, EGP 9.5 billion) loan agreement with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on 21 June to help fund Egypt’s universal health insurance program.

The loan will complete its disbursement by July 2024 and be repaid over 15 years at 0.01 percent interest.

The agreement was signed on 27 March by Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait.

Court seeks compromise that might preserve preventive health insurance mandates as appeals play out

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Federal appeals court judges are seeking compromise on whether government requirements that health insurance include coverage for HIV prevention, cancer screenings and some other types of preventive care can be maintained while a legal battle over the mandates plays out.

The 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals panel on Wednesday told attorneys on both sides of the issue to report by Friday on the possibility of a temporary compromise in the case.

House votes to override Gov. Burgum’s veto on the health insurance bill

(KXNET) — Governor Doug Burgum used his veto power to try and kill a plan relating to health insurance plans.

On Monday, House Bill 1416 was brought back, and lawmakers voted unanimously to override that veto.

The bill seeks to create freedom of choice for people looking for a health insurance plan and says that a health insurance company (including Medicaid) may not obstruct a person’s choice by excluding a provider who is both within a person’s coverage area and qualified to oversee a person’s health plan.
