An explosion at a cafe in central St. Petersburg on Sunday killed one of Russia’s leading pro-Kremlin bloggers, according to Russia’s interior ministry.

Maxim Fomin—known by his pseudonym Vladlen Tatarsky—was a prominent military blogger whose vocal support of Russia’s war efforts had earned him as many as 560,000 followers on Telegram.

A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southeastern Turkey and Syria early on Monday, toppling buildings and leaving at least 234 dead with the toll expected to rise.

The quake, centered at the north of the city of Gaziantep, about 90km from the Syrian border, left a huge trail of destruction in both countries and was felt as far away as Cairo.
