Ontario to end program providing health care to uninsured residents

The Ontario government will be ending a program that provides free-of-charge health-care services to uninsured people at the end of the month, something doctors say is extremely concerning for marginalized communities.

In March 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic was first slim up, the ministry of health established temporary funding for doctors to provide health-care providers to treat those without coverage under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).

The program allowed anyone to access “medically necessary physician and hospital services.”

In a memo sent to Ontario hospitals and health providers, and provided to CTV News Toronto, the government said this funding

Do I Need an Emergency List?

We frequently have questions related to the practical and financial panic after a death in the family when accounts, passwords, and assets are unknown. Sometimes, a family knows an estate plan was done but they cannot find the plan and don’t even know the law firm that drafted the plan. An emergency list can help to avoid these issues.

Insured Oklahomans must have access to quality mental health services

People seeking mental health care can face challenges when trying to find assistance through their insurance companies.

While there is a great deal of discussion concerning a nationwide mental health crisis, there has been very little attention given to what is perhaps the greatest barrier to care: commercial insurance plans that do not provide sufficient access to behavioral health services.

A recent study by the Healthy Minds Policy Initiative looked at gaps in Oklahoma’s commercial insurance networks. It documented the struggles that too many of us face when trying to find mental health and substance use care. The overarching theme of the report was very clear. Even though we pay for coverage, using our health plans to

Francis Ngannou reacts after Dana White casts doubt that things “would have gone any differently” had he fought Jon Jones at UFC 285

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is clearly amused by how quickly Dana White can change his tune on fighters.

Ngannou (17-3 MMA) parted ways with the Ultimate Fighting Championship earlier this year after failing to come to terms on a new deal with the promotion. ‘The Predator’ claimed that he attempted to negotiate health insurance, sponsorships, and other benefits for all fighters on the UFC roster. However, the company would not comply with his requests.

With that, Dana White and the UFC ultimately handed Francis Ngannou his release papers and proceeded to strip him of the heavyweight title. Shortly

Retirees in Wuhan, Dalian Protest Proposed Medical Insurance Cuts

On February 15, just weeks before the opening of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) legislative session in Beijing, thousands of Chinese retirees in the city of Wuhan and Dalian held large demonstrations against proposed reforms to the public health insurance system. These followed an initial demonstration on February 8 in Wuhan, which was largely peaceful: demonstrators shouted slogans, the “The Internationale,” and promised that they would return a week later if Wuhan authorities did not address their concerns about the reforms, which many retired Workers’ fear will result in steep cuts to their medical benefits.

Insurance-driven world affects doctors and patients

I went to my doctor recently. I am a retired physician. Just a routine follow-up visit. No big deal. I am generally well except for a few common ailments typical of an aging baby boomer.

He is a nice fellow and a competent doc who I believe has the best interests of his patients at heart. He is not unlike most physicians in the US, well-trained, technically competent, and hard working.

“What do you mean? Don’t we have the best medicine in the world,” my golf buddies will say when I suggest our system is flawed. They talk about the
